Squad Analysis – September With United London FC's first month complete, one of our managers (Paul Hurley) has been taking a close look at the video footage and match reports from our opening four matches and brings us his overview of the squad to date. Attack: Attacking has been a real strength to date with 16 goals scored, although 11 of these came from midfield. Brandon is a live wire who scored 3 in 2 games but has gone on trial so will be a big miss to the club. His stats reflect an ability to drop back to pick up the ball and get off shots from distance. Kone looked a little off the pace in the early games, but is a powerful striker who holds up the ball and has scored 2 goals in the last 2 games so his confidence is starting to show. Georges is a player who scored a hat-trick against a very good side in pre-season but he picked up an achilles problem which has meant a stop, start season so far as he looks to recover. Best performing attacker: Brandon probably edges it for me, but I don't think we have seen the best from Kone yet and he'll get stronger through the season. Striker who needs a chance: Georges Ketoka. Injuries have hampered his game time, but he is a direct player with a powerful shot and is an areal threat from set pieces too. Midfield: The attacking prowess from midfield has been a major factor in the success of the team with Jermeel and Emmanuel being a constant threat throughout September scoring 9 goals between them. Jermeel has pace to burn and scored that wonderful goal into the top right corner. Emmanuel was a surprise exclusion in game 3 after scoring 2 goals, but came on as a second half substitute to score 2 and add another on Saturday netting him 5 goals in 3 games. Lance is another player who has performed very well and has made the captaincy his own. He has a superb pass success rate as the opposition find it very hard to shake him off the ball. Best performing midfielder: This is probably the clubs strongest area but I'd give this to Emmanuel Wazola because of his high work rate which shows in the amount of interceptions and recovered balls as well as goals. Midfielder who needs a chance: Tarik Aciyan. He has shown some great touches during pre-season but an injury has ruled him out. With a strong midfield, it's tough to drop anyone at the moment though. Defence: Through pre-season the defense was a concern with 14 goals conceded in 4 games. However in the league they have only conceded 5 so have performed much better. Sam Godfrey is a vocal player who has provided some steely determination which seemed to be lacking. Simon (6' 4") and Abdi (6' 3") look like the clubs most natural centre back pairing however, Shaiquain spent time at right back and right midfield through pre-season but played center back in the last two games and has been a rock with a massive 12 areal duels won in the last match. Seb is another who has excelled and although he is the shortest defender at the club his fitness, work rate and determination has been excellent. Finally, Jayden is a player who loves to get up and down the pitch and will provide assists. Best performing defender: Shaiquain probably edges this one as his emergence as a center back from full back has been a very pleasant surprise. Sam is a close second for the way he encourages team mates. Defender who needs a chance: Simon. He reads the game very well, doesn't take risks, is dominant in the air and is a natural center back who has yet to put a foot wrong. Goalkeeper: The club started the campaign with three goalkeepers but went down to one when Tariq and Niall left. Frank was drafted in but has yet to feature so I cannot pass judgement although I'm told he is a very good shot stopper and commands the box. Having watched Archie's first game, he let the ball slip through his fingers but since then he has grown in confidence in every game and pulled off an excellent save last week to push the ball onto the bar. He is a brave keeper who is not afraid to dive at an onrushing attackers feet. Best performing goalkeeper: It can only be Archie for me. He is improving with every game. Goalkeeper who needs a chance: Frank is an experienced goalkeeper who has played in cup finals and has had professional coaching so will do well if/when he is called upon.
